Medical Legal and Impairment Assessment: Achieving Excellence as a California Qualified Medical Evaluator / Agreed Medical Evaluator

Description

As an evaluator, learn how to achieve even greater success and fulfillment in performing Qualified Medical Evaluations (QME) and Agreed Medical Evaluations (AME). Providing a high quality unbiased report based on a thorough evaluation, reflective of evidence-based medicine and appropriate use of the AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment, Fifth Edition, is of value to all stakeholders, especially the injured worker.

In January 2021, we will establish the foundation and then, throughout 2021, we build upon this and explore the assessment of specific body regions and conditions.

If you are current a QME or AME, or want to become one, you do not want to miss this learning opportunity. As the result of your participation, you will be able to:

1. Explain what stakeholders are looking for in a quality report.
2. Demonstrate how to most effectively use the AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment, Fifth Edition, including principles and assessing specific impairments.
3. Describe best practices for medical legal practices and how this is reflected in the AMA Guides Newsletter, September-October 2017 issue.
4. Discuss the uniqueness of California, from both medical and legal perspectives, in using the Guides.
5. Explain how to assess impairment and disability in the pain patient.
6. Describe how to apply best practices to evaluations and report preparation that greatly enhances quality and efficiency.

Each session involves leading experts who will share with you their insights. You will have an opportunity to submit questions prior to and during the sessions. In the virtual sessions polling will be used to obtain your feedback and you are encouraged to chat. Useful handouts are provided.

The sessions are held each Tuesday and Friday from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm PT, starting January 8. The live programs are open without charge to all and CSIMS members have access to recorded sessions thereafter.

The host is Sana Kahn, MD, and moderator is Christopher R. Brigham, MD. Outstanding faculty are participating.

Access to online training and other useful resources by Dr. Brigham can be found at www.fifthedition.com. You are also encouraged to achieve status as a CSIMS Certified Impairment Rater www.certifiedrater.com; both of these are at a 10% discount for CSIMS members by using promotion code “csims”.
